Community serves a twofold place in the life of the leader: The healthy leader is built in community. The healthy leader leads in community.
The Christian life is personal union and fellowship with Jesus (John 17:3). Church life is knowing God together. Moreover, together – in the context of the community of believers – we can know God in His fullness.
All leaders can improve in their leadership. In our previous Letter, we saw that we can help our leaders improve by overcoming the barrier between leaders and followers, by being realistic in our expectations of them, and by striving to understand them.
In our last Letter we looked at five kinds of followers: the alienated follower, the conformist, the passive follower, the pragmatic survivor and the effective follower. This Letter will begin to study eleven characteristics of effective followers.
As we noted in our last Letter, a godly leader will choose accountability. Healthy leaders will be accountable ones!
A godly leader will choose accountability. To be accountable means to be responsible to others, to allow others to call one to account. An unaccountable person, on the other hand, will answer to no one outside of himself.
We continue here to examine some broad, overarching realities concerning leadership development.
